Kutch is a District in Gujarat which in situated in western India. It is the largest district of India which covers an area of 45,652 kms.
The literary meaning of Kutch in Sanskrit Language is a tortoise. On the other hand the land is known so by the said name because of its wet and dry nature of the land. The Shallow Wetland which forms a larger part of the Kutch district is known as Rann of Kutch as in rainy season in submerges in the water and becomes very dry during the other seasons. This place is famous for the salt flats which are marshy and become white like snow soon after the water dries. This is the reason it is also known as the Biggest Salt Dessert.
The prominent language which is spoken in Kutch is Kutchi which is a variant of Sindhi, Gujarati and Hindi as the place is inhabited by various communities. These communities have migrated from Western Rajasthan (Marwar), Afghanistan and Sindh.
The best time to visit Kutch is from October to March. And you should plan your travel to the Rann of Kutch around the Full Moon. The Rann of Kutch hosts a festival which is known as Rann Utsav which is a Carnival of Dance, Music, the beauty and nature of White Rann and lot more.
